IFM Alternative Fixed Income Funds (“AFIF”) were established in June 1999 to facilitate investment in Australia’s growing alternative debt market. AFIF provides the opportunity to invest in a diversified portfolio of alternative fixed income assets where a margin for credit risk and illiquidity is available. AFIF also benefits from advisory and underwriting fees on transactions often available from the large and complex transactions requiring funding in today’s financial markets.
AFIF invests in the alternative debt sector of the investment market where deal flow has increased dramatically in recent years. As a result of this, the types of securities available in this sector for investment have also increased giving investors an opportunity to invest in senior and subordinated debt instruments, structured arrangements, convertible notes, preference shares and asset backed securities.
Australian investors are given the ability to select the level of interest rate exposure with which they are comfortable within AFIF, having the choice between AFIF Short (having a duration of less than 0.5 years) and AFIF Long (having a duration of around 3.5 years) or a combination of both. Both AFIF Short and AFIF Long invest in the same underlying diversified alternative fixed income portfolio.
